The Second Family Foundation is dedicated to providing youth who experience risk(s), including foster care, with as much of the traditional middle class child’s experience as possible.

Created in 2007 from experiences with the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and research help from the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Second Family Foundation (SFF) is focused on a “pay it forward” mentality. The foundation provides programs and resources to help youth who are experiencing risk(s) within their families become self-sufficient adults who able to eventually give back to younger generations.

While SFF is small in relation to the size of the foster care challenge and number of youth experiencing risk(s) we want our work to be helpful to other programs. The foundation performs regular reviews and funds ongoing research in a continuing effort to find the most effective avenues to reach youth.

We welcome all thoughts and recommendations for the foundation’s continued evolution.

SFF is a partner with Wheels4Hope.

If I am not for myself, who will be for me?

If I am only for myself, what am I?

And if not now, when?”
