Second Family Foundation is dedicated to providing older youth who experience risk(s), including foster care, with supports and opportunities to nurture optimal self-development.
Established in 2007 from insights gained from Big Brothers Big Sisters program and research assistance from the School of Social Work at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Second Family Foundation (SFF) is focused on a “pay it forward” mentality. The Foundation provides initiatives and resources to empower youth facing familial risk(s) to become self-sufficient adults capable of contributing to the well-being of future generations.
While SFF may be modest in scale compared to the vast challenges of foster care, our goal is to extend our impact to other programs. Through consistent performance reviews and sustained investment in research, SFF strives to identify the most effective methods for reaching and assisting at-risk youth.
We welcome all thoughts and recommendations for SFF’s continued evolution.
SFF is a partner with Wheels4Hope, assisting SFF participants to obtain their first vehicle.

If I am only for myself, what am I?
And if not now, when?”
